Fundraising at Yeadon Westfield Juniors

Westfield Juniors have been busy fundraising for The Childrens’ Liver Disease Foundation by taking part in “Big Yellow Friday”. Children were asked to wear something yellow and bring in a donation. They managed to raise over £150. They have also participated in Sport Relief by wearing sporty clothes and again donating to the charity. For World Book Day, they dressed up as adjectives with costumes including sporty, deflated, blue and sleepy.

Guiseley School looked at dance and movement in their work and produced some fantastic work with light.

Rufford Park Primary were inspired by different artists and how we can get joy from nature.

St Oswald’s produced a large display which was set up in the church foyer. This is just part of it.

Internet Safety

Parents and carers were recently invited to Guiseley School to attend a seminar to help improve their confidence in dealing with internet safety. David Tidman, a Data and Safeguarding Manager from InVentry was invited to share his advice and expertise on how students and parents alike can protect themselves against the negative aspects of the internet and social media, and feel more in control of the data and images that they might share online.

Following the positive feedback from the evening, Guiseley School will look at similar events for parents/carers in the future.

Thank you for the wonderful Art

The exhibition as a whole was a great success and was enjoyed by many generations of the community. Thank you to all the teachers for their enthusiasm and to the Art Department at Guiseley School for running the workshops and helping schools with their ideas, to all the visitors and to Anita for coming to visit us. The last thank you must go to the children for all their hard work. We look forward to next year!

Anita Bowerman visits the exhibition

The exhibition was open during the daytime but we also opened late on the Tuesday evening to allow more of the local community to view the art. Anita Bowerman, official artist of the Tour de Yorkshire 2015 gave a presentation about her own recycled art and her use of recycled tools such as feather quills and twigs which she uses to paint with. She gave a demonstration of some of the techniques she uses, her talk was both interesting and informative. She brought along some of her work for us to view and was very impressed by the childrens’ work.

The Adults’ Views of the Art

The many visitors we had were very impressed by what they saw and the phrases “Very good” and “Fantastic” were commonly heard. The exhibits prompted discussion about recycling and disposal of rubbish, an issue that is at the forefront of the news at the current time. They greatly appreciated the effort that the children and teachers had put into the work. Many visitors brought younger siblings along to see what their older brothers and sisters had made.
